Shawna was born in Southern California and grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. After high school, she moved in with family in Paw Paw, Michigan (20 miles west of Kalamazoo). She attended college at Western Michigan University, and graduated with a BS in Individual and Family Relationships with a double minor in Social Work and Sociology.
During her college years, Shawna worked as a Caregiver for individuals afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. It was during this time that she realized her love and developed her passion of working with the elderly.
Shawna’s grandmother lived in Capitola, California, and became terminally ill in the mid 90's. So, Shawna moved her life (and cat) to Capitola to care for Grandma until her passing. Shawna met her husband in 2001 and they now live in Silicon Valley with their two teenage boys and two dogs.
Shawna’s 25 years of experience in Health Care consists of caregiving, marketing, social services and administrative work in assisted living communities, skilled nursing facilities, adult day care, home care and hospice. Before becoming an Aging Life Care Professional®️, Shawna was an Assisted Living Administrator for a community specializing in memory care.
